Clitic Analyses of Korean Little Words

In Korean, there are many little words that can best be analyzed as clitics: The copula iand the adjectival ha-, as well as some nominal and verbal particles. Among others, the clitic analysis of adjectival haleads to a unified account of light predicate constructions.

Cubefree words with many squares

We construct infinite cubefree binary words containing exponentially many distinct squares of length n. We also show that for every positive integer n, there is a cubefree binary square of length 2n.

How many words are there?

The commonsensical assumption that any language has only finitely many words is shown to be false by a combination of formal and empirical arguments. Zipf's Law and related formulas are investigated and a more complex model is offered.

A little more about morphic Sturmian words

Among Sturmian words, some of them are morphic, i.e. fixed point of a non-identical morphism on words. Berstel and Séébold (1993) have shown that if a characteristic Sturmian word is morphic, then it can be extended by the left with one or two letters in such a way that it remains morphic and Sturmian.
